I have created thousands of portraits during my career as a professional portrait artist. My clients come to me when they want a personal work of art inspired by my imagination and built around them, their dreams and unique character. I love what I do.
Recently I had the privilege of creating a portrait of my subject and her beloved Golden Retriever. Tragically, her pet passed away just two days after our initial photo session but I had captured a beautiful loving moment between them from which I painted a joyful and moving portrait. The look on my client’s face when she saw it told me that this portrait was priceless; and there are no words to describe how blessed I felt to be able to create it for her.
With gratefulness and passion I vow to make every portrait a masterpiece, every consultation I challenge myself to excel at my highest level and every brush stroke is painted with respect, compassion and kindness to my subject.
I can’t wait to see what we can do for you!
Stephen Moody | Scottsdale Portrait Artist
One of my favorite portraits of a mom with her daughters on a Sunday Afternoon.
28x34” Oil on Canvas - Framed Size 35x41”
This image started out in my head. I had photographed a model in my studio in NYC in the 90’s and I was going through some transparencies and saw the image of her. I closed my eyes and saw her with wings in front of a grand staircase.
This Angel is descending into this home to protect from evil forces. She is a protector a guardian.
Rosa by the Mirror
A romantic portrait of Rosa dressing in front of her mirror.
This painting was created with Pointillism to create this soft romantic feel in the image.
26 x 40" Oil on Canvas
A quiet morning in the free standing bath tub enjoying the hot water on her skin.
Oil on Canvas
This was one of my favorite images from my Scarf | Tie Catalog that I photographed at the Royal Palms Resort.
I loved the image so much that I painted it.
Sarah and I discussed this image in detail before her photo shoot. The inspiration for this image came from a painting by Dino Paeni. After I completed the painting I gave Sarah a file so she could share it on her social media.
Her Great Aunt, Grandfather’s sister, saw the image and went through pictures of her mother, Sarah’s Great Grandmother. She found an image that was very similar to the one I created of Sarah. It gave me chills when I saw the two side by side.
You may see the images in my blog on this site.
Stephen Moody's Fine Art Portraits are timeless works of art that will adorn the walls of your home and are multi-generational.
At 25 Moody opened his 1st portrait studio in Salt Lake City and 4 years later earned the Master of Photography Degree from the Professional Photographers of America. Moody's portfolio was filled with images of children. "I love photographing children.
Moody's fine art portraits stand out with his impressionistic style, story telling images or just capturing the true character of his subjects. "Its amazing today when I walk into the home of one of my clients whose children are now grown - my portraits of those children are still hanging prominently on their walls."
“When I lived in New York City as a photographer and would be walking down 5th Ave - people’s dogs would stop in front of me and wouldn’t move until I petted them. I have always had an affinity with animals,” says Stephen Moody who has two St Bernards, a Siberian Husky, a Rottweiler and 2 cats. He rescued all of them and gave them a forever home.
Moody is an Artist and Master Professional Photographer with over 30 years of experience. He specializes in one of a kind Fine Art Portraits. ”Creating Fine Art Pet Portraits is what I love to do. Every animal has a unique personality and I love to create that on an artist’s canvas,” says Moody.
It all begins with a concept. Once the idea is in place the idea begins to take shape in the form of mental imagery. The photoshoot is the foundation for the artwork. It is then that the creation process starts in Moody’s mind as he brings the elements together and creates a one of a kind masterpiece of your “Best Friend”.
Utilizing his computer, pigment ink, acrylics and oils, Stephen Moody has developed his unique and exceptional style of painted portraits. He has taken portraiture to a pinnacle that has never been reached by any free-hand painter using oils.
With his camera, computer, palette, brushes, canvas and unerring flair for light, Moody's work brings fine art portraiture to every pet owner, family and institution who seek to capture the present for future generations to come. He accomplishes the impossible, creating an "exact likeness" of loved ones.
